I'm going to get healthy, I'm going to lose weight, I'm going to make more time for myself. Maybe this time I should do a PDCA?
Plan, Do, Check, Act/Adjust = PDCA
Why you will most likely fail if you don't do a PDCA.
You tell everyone about "What" you are going to accomplish but can't provide any details.
"PLAN"- You must have a goal statement and you must have a plan. A plan requires dates, times and how you are going to accomplish this. It must be written down so you can refer to it later. Write it on the back of a napkin if that's all you have. It may only take you 5 minutes but it's 5 minutes well spent.
You get the gym membership and workout so hard you can't move the next day.
I can already tell you didn't have a Plan. You jumped right into the "DO" phase and created a flurry of activity. When you Do something it should be according to a Plan so you don't "over Do it" or "under "Do" it"
Are you gauging your workout at the gym by:
- How long you were there
- If you don't smell too bad when you leave
Because you didn't Plan you also didn't put any guidelines for success to "CHECK" to see if everything went to plan. Successes may include: Weight loss, ability to run longer, ability to lift more weight, fit in a pair of pants, ability to touch your toes or even the ability to see your toes.
You have a track record of just giving up if you don't succeed.
If everything didn't go according to Plan then change things and try again. If you wanted to lose weight but you're doing strength training maybe you should "ADJUST" the workout to have more cardio.
PDCA is something that you do over and over to help improve your life and can be applied to any project. Next time before you go and "DO" spend a few extra minutes and PDCA.
